Privacy

Clear privacy boundaries before you record.

HushNote runs recording, live transcription, speaker processing, and review on your iPhone by default. Transcript content is sent to a third-party provider only when you explicitly configure and use cloud summaries or cloud Ask HushNote.

Local recording and transcription

On-device is the default path.

Recording, mixed-language live transcription, and speaker processing run directly on your iPhone. The core recording workflow does not require uploading audio to a HushNote server.

Cloud features are optional

You choose if a third-party model is involved.

If you choose cloud summaries or cloud Ask HushNote, relevant transcript content and prompts are sent to the provider you configure. HushNote does not require that path.

No relay backend

Your API key is not routed through a HushNote server.

The app does not run its own backend to proxy third-party model requests or host your API key.

No account wall

You do not need to register before recording.

The app is not built around profiles, team seats, or account data collection before you can start using the core workflow.

Privacy FAQ

The important boundaries, plainly stated.

These answers explain what stays local by default and what happens only after you choose a cloud feature.

Does HushNote upload my audio by default?+

No. Audio stays on your device, while live transcription and speaker processing run on your iPhone by default. A HushNote server is not required for live transcription.

When does cloud processing happen?+

Only when you actively configure a third-party model provider and use cloud summaries or cloud Ask HushNote. The transcript excerpts and prompts needed for that request are then sent to the provider you selected.

Does HushNote store my API key on its own server?+

No. HushNote does not run a relay backend to host your API key or proxy your model requests.

Do I need an account?+

No. You can start recording and organizing notes without creating an account.

Does downloading a local summary model upload my audio?+

No. A model download only retrieves model files. Recording, transcription, and local inference are not uploaded because of that download. Relevant text is sent only if you intentionally use cloud summaries or cloud Ask HushNote with a provider you configured.

Practical reminder

If you enable a third-party provider for cloud summaries or cloud Ask HushNote, review that provider's privacy, retention, and billing terms first.
